There were 232 homeless people in Regina on the night of May 13, 2015, according to a point-in-time count commissioned by Regina’s Community Advisory Board for the Homeless.

Of the 232 people counted that night, the breakdown is as follows:

  • 54.3% (126) in shelters
  • 27.7% (62) in transitional housing
  • 6.9% (16) in detox
  • 3.4% (8) sleeping on the street, or in parks
  • 12.1% (28) enumerated

Of those counted, 34.6% of Regina’s homeless were female, 64.4% male. Shockingly, 36.8% were children under the age of 18, and 13.6% reported that they were accompanying a minor.

75% of those counted were Aboriginal, 28.3% of respondents said they were new to Regina, being here for less than a year, but only 4.8% were immigrants to Canada.

80.3% of those counted also self-reported a mental health condition, addiction, or medical condition.

A full report will be released in the fall, and data will be used for future funding and programming decisions.
