Power was out over a large section of east-side Moose Jaw Thursday night after an alleged drunk driver crashed into a power pole before hitting several parked vehicles.

A 37-year-old man driving northbound on the 300 block of 3rd Avenue Northeast hit the pole just after 11 p.m. He continued driving after the collision and struck a parked van, a fire hydrant at the corner of 3rd and Athabasca, and two more parked vehicles.

He was stopped by police on the 400 block of 3rd and charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08 and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Total damage to the power pole, fire hydrant and all four vehicles — including the driver’s — was estimated at $80,000.
