Several charges including attempted murder have been laid after a man and his dog were injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian collision in Moose Jaw.
The incident happened at the intersection of Fifth Avenue Northwest and Hall Street West shortly after 6 a.m. Monday.
The male pedestrian was taken to Moose Jaw Union Hospital and was later released. His dog was taken to a veterinary clinic. The extent of the animal’s injuries isn’t known.
The driver fled the scene and police arrested a suspect a short time later.
In addition to attempted murder, 22-year-old Daniel James Smith from Moose Jaw faces charges of dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene of a collision and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Following a court appearance Monday afternoon, Smith was remanded in custody until a bail hearing set for Sept. 11.
