The body of a 23-year-old man who drowned while swimming in Katepwa Lake has been found.

The man was swimming in the lake with some friends Tuesday afternoon when he swam past a buoy and began to struggle. Friends and some bystanders tried to rescue him, but he disappeared underwater.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, an RCMP underwater recovery team found the man’s body in about 26 feet of water near the area where he was last seen.

The coroner’s office is investigating and police say the death is not considered suspicious.
