One local lawyer has entered the domain fray—in the name of “dot love.” Known for class action lawsutis, Regina lawyer Tony Merchant has found himself another business venture.

“We got interested in Dot Love because of its broad appeal. We thought it was a good business decision. We like the idea of a word that works everywhere in the world,” said Tony Merchant, owner of Merchant Law Group and Dot Love.

Dot Love is a website domain. Anyone can purchase a website domain name that ends in “dot love” if it is not already taken.

Merchant says he initially wanted to acquire Dot Love, but it was sold. That caused him to turn his attention to Dot Love.

“And then we acquired Dot Love in late 2014 and it took some time to get it on the market and it came onto the market over this weekend,” Merchant said.

Merchant thinks the majority of buyers will be couples who want to promote their upcoming weddings. However, local businesses are already scooping up the new domain name.

“We bought it because of our mantra which is to be loved. So, if you got to bravotango.love it goes to our mantra page,” said Ben Tingley, President and CEO of Bravo Tango.

Published reports say the sale price of the domain was in the millions of dollars. Merchant did not confirm the amount, but he did say he out bid big buyers such as Google and Amazon. He said that in the first day of sales dot love made $50,000 in sales.
