Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager Brendan Taman is standing behind the team’s head coach amid speculation about Corey Chamblin’s future.

Taman spoke to media Monday following reports that he was set to recommend the firing of Chamblin after the Riders fell to 0-6 for the first time since 1979.

Taman told reporters he has not asked for permission to fire Chamblin, saying he expects him to remain head coach for the rest of the season. The decision has the support of Roughriders president and CEO Craig Reynolds and the Riders board, he said.

Every coach goes through spells like this, Taman said, adding that Chamblin has been working hard behind the scenes to turn things around. He said he isn’t bringing in any defensive consultants because he trusts Chamblin and defensive co-ordinator Greg Quick.

Taman said the team is looking at everything when it comes to personnel, even trades, but says it’s not a panic situation.

Compared to 2011, the Riders are a better football club, Taman said, and the locker room still believes in themselves.
