The Crown has stayed charges of theft and fraud against a Regina woman who was accused of bilking her mother out of more than $200,000 intended for her care.

The Crown made the move Monday morning, as a preliminary hearing for Janet Pryputniski was scheduled to begin in Regina provincial court.

Senior Crown prosecutor Dana Brule told CTV News the charges were stayed because there was “no reasonable likelihood of conviction.”

Police had alleged Pryputniski held power of attorney over her mother and took money that was intended for her care.

Pryputniski was arrested in January following an investigation that was launched after police received a report that the money was missing in March 2013.
