A Regina couple is now charged with manslaughter in the August 2 death of a four-year-old girl.
Kevin Eric Goforth, 37, and Tammy Lynn Goforth, 35, both appeared in court Thursday to answer the charge. The matter was set over until next week.
The pair was originally charged with two counts each of criminal negligence causing bodily harm in a case of alleged abuse and neglect of the young girl and her two-year-old sister. However the death of the four-year-old child prompted the crown to withdraw one charge and introduce the more serious offence. The second charge of criminal negligence involving treatment of the younger child remains.
Regina police have now identified the young victim as June Alexus Dawn Goforth of Regina. The younger child’s identity won’t be released.
Police have not fully explained the relationship between the children and the accused, other than to describe the couple as “caregivers” and that they are not the children’s biological parents.
