It is a decision four months in the making, but a temporary solution has been found in a dispute over the Victoria Avenue East service road.

At a Thursday evening council meeting, city council approved a compromise that will see a temporary road and bridge set-up for the winter months.

City hall had originally planned to tear down the bridge and close the north service road entirely, but that decision was met with pushback from local businesses located along the route.

The new solution comes at a cost of $1.5 million, but council feels that building a temporary road, and revisiting the issue in the spring, is the best compromise for everyone.

Officials believe they can have the temporary road and bridge in place before the end of the year.
