The final piece in the University of Regina's plan to revitalize the College Avenue Campus fell into place Monday night, as city council voted in favour of gifting a parcel of land to the university.

The property is located on College Avenue between Darke Hall and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. It is currently an extension of the larger Wascana Park.

The university has plans to construct a new office complex on the site, which will then be leased out. Profits will be used to renovate and upgrade the aging College Avenue campus next door.

City council gave the project its blessing, with a vote of five to one. The university's president says construction and design will begin immediately.

Council also voted to change how repairs to residential streets are prioritized. In 2014, council decided to focus on bringing streets with minor damages back up to code instead of focusing on the worst streets in the city. On Monday, council voted unanimously to re-evaluate that decision.
