Concept drawings for a new football stadium in Regina were unveiled Wednesday, but city officials say the final design could look a lot different.

The 33,000-seat, open-air stadium is to feature a sunken bowl design and a partial “smart roof” with sun and wind control systems.

A retractable spectator roof could be added on later to fully enclose the stadium, but there’s no estimate yet on how much that addition would cost.

The concept drawings will serve as a guide for firms bidding to design and build the facility.

But while the city will set out specific criteria for the design, bidders will be able to incorporate their own ideas. That means the final design could look a lot different than the concept drawings.

The city plans to hold public information sessions on the concept designs for the new stadium this fall.

Details on the sessions and more information on the stadium plan will be available on a new website the city launched Wednesday.
