CTV News has learned hospital services for the town of Maple Creek will continue to be offered out of temporary locations until at least next spring.

Maple Creek Union Hospital was closed this May due to safety concerns. Since then, medical services have been provided out of temporary locations in the community, including a former SaskEnergy office building, and a former bank.

Construction on a new hospital is underway and it was supposed to open by this fall, but the Cypress Health Region says an ongoing labour shortage has put construction behind schedule.

The new hospital now won't be completed until March, with another month needed after that for equipment setup and staff training.

The health region is now debating whether to try to get at least part of the new building up and running sooner than that, possibly in January, or wait until spring to open the entire facility.
