Construction on the K+S Potash Canada Legacy mine near Bethune is now in the home stretch.

The mine, which is the largest construction project currently underway in Saskatchewan, is on track to be completed by the end of the year.

“We are reaching the final milestones on the road to production,” said Dr. Ulrich Lamp, president and CEO for KSPC, in a written release. “Our team has worked hard to keep our project on time and on budget, and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished. The progress has been incredible.”

KSPC broke ground on the project in June of 2012. Four years and almost $4.1 billion later, the land is home to 20 underground caverns where potash ore is dissolved, and more than 100 employees are on site ready to begin production.

The mine is the first new potash mine in the province in 40 years.
