Newly released statistics show Saskatchewan recorded the second-largest year-over-year increase in consumer bankruptcies among the provinces in February.

The federal Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy says 97 bankruptcies were filed by Saskatchewan consumers during the month, up 24.4 per cent compared to February 2015.

The number of bankruptcies filed by Saskatchewan businesses rose to five from four in the same period.

Alberta posted the largest year-over-year jump in consumer bankruptcies on a provincial basis at 45.5 per cent.
