Canadian Pacific is pushing full steam ahead with its new intermodal facility at Saskatchewan's Global Transportation Hub in Regina.

CP announced the opening of the facility, which is located next to its mainline between Regina and Moose Jaw.

The new intermodal facility is designed to process up to 250,000 container handlings per year or five times more container handlings per year compared to CP's former terminal in downtown Regina.

CP executive vice-president and chief marketing officer Jane O'Hagan says will enhance the company's competitive access to key North American and world markets.

Development of the Global Transportation Hub began more than five years ago and was predicated on CP relocating.

Loblaw, Consolidated Fastfrate and the Yanke Group of Companies are already in the hub, which encompasses about 688 hectares of serviced land.
