The CTV Home Town Tour got underway Monday.

Six o'clock co-anchors Dan McIntosh and Danelle Boivin visited Eastend on the first day of the tour.

Their first order of business was to find out why the village, located about 140 kilometers southwest of Swift Current, is called Eastend.

Back in 1876, the RCMP called it Eastend because it was located at the east end of the Cypress Hills police post.

But the community's history goes even further back. Eastend is famous for its T. rex Discovery Centre, which Dan and Danelle had a chance to visit on the tour.

Eastend was incorporated as a village in 1914, and planning is already underway for centennial celebrations in 2014.

Not surprisingly, it's a very scenic place, thanks to its location in the Cypress Hills region

Indeed, there's no shortage of nature, or wildlife in Eastend. The community is regarded as the hunting capital of the southwest.

It's also known for its fundraising efforts. The local MS walk has raised the most money per participant in Saskatchewan.

On Tuesday, the Home Town Tour bus will head to Montmartre. Other stops on the five-day tour include Abernethy, Langenburg and Edenwold.
