A cyclist has died after being struck by a semi in Regina.

The collision happened at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Lewvan Drive just after 2 p.m. Friday.

The semi was traveling northbound on Lewvan Drive in the right lane and continued at a green light at Fourth Avenue. A 34-year-old man was riding his bike westbound on Fourth Avenue and tried to make a right turn on a red light at Lewvan Drive.

Police say the cyclist died at the scene.

Both lanes of Fourth Avenue and the northbound lanes of Lewvan Drive were closed near the scene for more than three hours while police investigated. The Regina Police Service and the Chief Coroner will continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
