The community of Dauphin, Man. is in mourning following the sudden passing of Mayor Eric Irwin. Irwin died Friday while snorkeling with his family in Key West, Fla.
The exact cause of death of the 62-year-old isn’t known. A funeral for Irwin is being planned, as his family works to return home from Florida. State law requires any sudden death be investigated by the medical examiner's office.
Irwin was the mayor of the city for seven years, previously serving his community as a councillor. In addition to his work in local politics, he was also the President of Dauphin's Countryfest.
“I hope he's remembered as a visionary for our community, and also the ability to bring a vision to reality. He got a lot of projects done, said Allen Dowhan, Deputy Mayor of Dauphin.
The city’s plan going forward will be discussed at a council meeting Thursday.
Irwin is being remembered as someone who always championed his beloved city.
