A dog has been killed and its owner charged after an altercation with police.

Regina police were called to the 100 block of Osler Street at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday to respond to a report of a suspicious vehicle.

When officers arrived on scene, they encountered a fully-grown Rottweiler. Animal control was called in and cordoned off an area of the alleyway.

Police say the Rottweiler was shot and killed after attacking officers.

The dog's owner has been charged with assault with a weapon.
