Regina’s downtown was filled with handmade wares on Sunday, celebrating the best of what Saskatchewan vendors have to offer.

The Summer Handmade Market brought 25 vendors from across the province to the Queen City.

“There's so much great talent and creativity from the people, so we love to support that," said market organizer Jennifer Austin. She co-owns The Wren, the local company hosting the event, with her sister Michelle.

"We're supporting the people in our community,” Austin added. “A lot of the goods they use are local as well, so it's really all about supporting our community."

Dana Rogoschewsky, owner of Art by Dana, brought her hand painted prints of Regina buildings to the market.

"They say paint what you know, and write what you know,” Rogoschewsky said. “I just started painting what I knew.”

Born and raised in Regina, Rogoshewsky creates portraits of her favourite buildings in the Queen City. The paintings can take months to create.

“I just go around and find different images, different buildings that I find really interesting,” she said. “Then I paint them in a comic book style.”

She is currently focusing on the Cathedral neighbourhood. Her paintings feature Regina landmarks, including Milky Way, La Bodega and Taylor Field.

“You get all these really interesting stories that come from buildings,” Rogoshewsky said.

And the stories help attract people to her artwork.

“It makes people feel like they have a little bit of their home with them when they buy a piece,” she said. “It makes people really happy.”

The market helps to celebrate all that Saskatchewan has to offer, right here at home.

“We see lots of paintings of Paris or London,” Rogoshewsky said. “It’s really nice to see something of our home, where we’re from.”
