Dr. Vianne Timmons was honoured on Friday as the 2016 CTV Regina Citizen of the Year.

Dr. Timmons was selected to receive the award for her tireless work with youth and adults with disabilities in Canada and India and her leadership as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Regina. She has also been a strong advocate for Camp fYrefly, a supper camp for LGBTQ youth in Saskatchewan.

“On behalf of all the citizens of Regina it is a privilege to pay tribute to someone who has given so much to the community.” Jeff Bollenbach, General Manager for Manitoba and Saskatchewan Radio and Television.

Dr. Timmons received the award in front of a crowd of her family, friends and peers over the lunch hour on Friday.

This is the 13th year for the Regina Citizen of the Year award. Each November, CTV accepts nominations from viewers for the award, and at the end of the year selects an individual who exemplifies excellence in community service.
