Outrage continued to mount as relatives of a dead four-year-old girl demanded justice during a brief demonstration outside the Regina provincial courthouse.
June Goforth died in hospital earlier this month. Her non-biological caregivers, Tammy and Kevin Goforth, are in custody facing charges of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The little girl’s two-year-old sister was also removed from the Goforths’ custody and hospitalized with serious injuries.
Following a brief court appearance by Kevin Goforth on Thursday, the girls’ relatives told reporters that the two accused should be charged with murder, not manslaughter.
They also say Social Services should be investigated for failing to monitor the children.
The couple's cases are being heard separately. Both of the accused are scheduled to return to court next week.
