A highway in southern Saskatchewan was overrun by hogs after a semi-trailer loaded with pigs crashed.

RCMP say a semi carrying two-week-old pigs swerved to avoid a moose on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Wolseley on Monday night. The driver lost control of the semi and the rig rolled onto its side in a ditch.

The impact from the crash caused the livestock trailer to break open, and numerous pigs ran out onto the highway.

Eastbound traffic was restricted to one lane while the Grenfell Fire Department, EMS and local farmers helped RCMP officers round up the escaped pigs.

The driver of the semi sustained minor injuries in the crash and was treated by EMS at the scene.
