A 37-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge after a woman was found dead in a home in Yellow Grass, Sask. on Thursday.

RCMP say Kevin Obina Okafor, 37, was arrested in the Swift Current area on Thursday in relation to the death. RCMP have identified the victim as 33-year-old Abbie Speir. Police say the victim and the accused are known to each other.

RCMP say Okafor was arrested after the pickup truck he was driving failed to stop for police on Highway 1 near Swift Current. A spike belt was deployed and the disabled vehicle went into the ditch, coming to rest on its side.

Okafor wasn't hurt in the incident. He is also facing charges of fleeing a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He will appear in Regina Provincial Court on Monday morning.
