A weather system could bring freezing rain to central and southeastern areas of Saskatchewan this weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the area stretching from Meadow Lake in west-central Saskatchewan to Carlyle in the southeast.

The agency says a low pressure system will move into Saskatchewan on Saturday, bringing with it the risk of freezing rain that could make driving conditions treacherous.

The freezing rain is expected to begin around 4 a.m. in Meadow Lake, while those in southeastern parts of the province can expect it to start falling around 9 a.m.
