Information technology giant Fujitsu has announced it will build a Tier III data centre in Regina.

The Fujitsu Saskatchewan Data Centre will feature up to 35,000 square feet of data hall space.

It will be the first of its kind in the province, and among only a few Tier III data centres in Western Canada.

“Our new facility in Saskatchewan underscores our commitment to the market,” Fujitsu Canada president André Pouliot said in a news release.

“(It) offers our customers flexible and enhanced services to meet the needs of today’s global companies while at the same time creating high value jobs for the local economy.”

Construction is scheduled to begin by early January and is expected to wrap up in early to mid-2014.

The announcement comes after Fujitsu Canada acquired Saskatchewan-based information technology firm TMC.
