Cross-border alliances, nuclear weapons and overall world domination were the plans of a fictional North Korean government at this year’s MegaGame.

“We just finished negotiating a global partnership in response to unification between the United Kingdom and Germany, which we have taken as an act of war,” said Mr. Mercedes, the North Korean Representative and MegaGame participant.

The scenario was part of a role-playing game involving teams of players, with each representing a different country. It was put on by SaskGames Play With Your Food, in support of Souls Harbour.

“They're going to be negotiating, breaking alliances, building nuclear weapons, and plotting against each other, as it is in the world today,” said Murray Bennet, SaskGames Play with your Food chairman.

Participants said it’s all about creativity and thinking outside the box.

“There's a couple of countries that are merging to increase their economic power,” said participant Jim MacKenzie. “There's a country that's got an opportunity for some illicit oil production.”

The teams often reflect real geo-political personalities, with the ultimate goal of not destroying the world with a nuclear bomb.

The event in Regina started three years ago. It's become so popular that the 50 spots available sell out in minutes.

“It's neat. Everybody gets really into their roles. And to have a board game simulation on this level, it's a unique experience,” said participant Taylor Roadhouse.

This year, the event aimed to raise $2,000 for Soul’s Harbour.
