A hazardous materials team has been called in after a substance believed to be powdered uranium spilled from a semi-trailer that rolled over near Swift Current.

The crash happened on Highway 4, about 10 kilometres north of the city, shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. No one was hurt.

Emergency crews are on scene and a hazmat team has been called in. RCMP say no homes are downwind from the scene and no evacuations are necessary.

All farms within a 1.6-kilometre radius of the crash have been advised of the spill, and RCMP are continuing to monitor the situation.

Traffic is being rerouted in the area and drivers are being told to expect delays. The highway remained closed Tuesday.
