A jury has come out with several recommendations for the Swift Current RCMP, city, and health officials in the wake of the death of a prisoner.

In 2009, 36-year-old Corey Cross was found to have strangled himself using fabric and the bars of his cell.

The inquest has resulted in Mounties being told they should regularly check cells for foreign items.

The Cypress Health Region and the City of Swift Current also heard improvements they can initiate. The jury told them to provide a more secure environment for prisoners with psychiatric issues, and retro-fit cells to prevent prisoners from harming themselves.
