A man accused of murder in the stabbing death of a woman near Springside, Sask. has been found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.

Richard Lesann had been on trial for second-degree murder in the death of 40-year-old Tammey Kulaway.

Lesann looked calm as the verdict was read Tuesday at Court of Queen’s Bench in Yorkton, while Kulaway’s family members were in tears.

In March 2011, RCMP found Kulaway's body in the yard of a rural property near Springside after responding to a report of a stabbing. Officers arrested Lesann at his home on the property after negotiating with him over the phone.

Mounties have said Lesann and Kulaway knew each other.

Springside is located about 25 kilometres northwest of Yorkton.
