A man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for seven years for his role in a double murder on a southern Saskatchewan reserve.
The 20-year-old man, who was 17 at the time, was sentenced as an adult after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.
He originally faced first-degree murder charges in the deaths of 27-year-old Jessica Redman and 28-year-old Sheldon Yuzicappi.
Court heard the teenager and two other people broke into Redman and Yuzicappi’s home on the Standing Buffalo First Nation in October 2012.
One of the co-accused, Brittany Bear, pleaded guilty in November to two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility of parole for 25 years.
Her cousin, Kody Bear, received a life sentence with no eligibility of parole for 18 years after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.
