A man has come down from a tree after a standoff with police that lasted more than four hours.

Police say plainclothes officers were following a man who is a suspect in a stolen auto case. The suspect was initially in a vehicle and then on a bicycle.

The man went to the 700 block of Garnet Street, where police say he climbed a tree after he realized officers were following him.

He climbed up the tree around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The man smoked a cigarette while he was holed up in the tree, and was later seen wielding a small branch as he shouted profanities at police.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area, and fire and EMS crews were also on scene.

The man finally came down from the tree at about 4:15 p.m.
