A Saskatchewan man's legal fight to have his dangerous offender designation removed has been delayed in what the Appeal Court calls an unusual situation.

Andy Peekeekoot has more than 20 convictions, including for assaults on corrections workers, and was labelled a dangerous offender in 2010.

The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal was supposed to hear arguments today on whether it should overturn the designation.

Instead the court heard that more information has come forward that could lead to several outcomes, including Peekeekoot's lawyer withdrawing from the case or an appeal of the assault conviction that prompted the dangerous offender application.

Chief Justice Robert Richards noted Peekeekoot has already gone through several lawyers.

Richards says the case has to be resolved in the interest of justice and the court is concerned because it has been nine years since the offence -- a bar fight in Shell Lake -- happened.
