Ted Godwin, 79, a member of the Regina Five group of artists, has died.

Godwin had recently been hospitalized after a heart attack, passed away in his sleep early on Friday.

Born in Calgary, Godwin achieved success with the Regina Five, a group of abstract artists. The group received national attention with an art show at the National Gallery of Canada in 1961.

Godwin’s work has been shown in major galleries across Canada and the United Kingdom.

Godwin also served as a faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan from 1964 until retiring in 1985.
