A blowing snow advisory has been issued for much of central and southern Saskatchewan, including Regina and Saskatoon.

Environment Canada says a fast-moving cold front accompanied by falling snow will sweep across the province Monday.

Strong northwesterly winds of 50 kilometres an hour gusting to 70 kilometres an hour will cause widespread blowing snow, the agency said.

Visibility is expected to be near zero for a few hours after the cold front passes, making travel treacherous.

It’s anticipated that conditions will be worst south of Highway 16 and west of Highway 2 to the Alberta border.

Winds should slowly diminish Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to fall well below normal for a few days in the wake of the cold front.
