A 17-year-old Regina girl is facing charges after she allegedly led police on a chase at speeds exceeding 160 kilometres an hour on the Ring Road.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, patrol officers saw an eastbound car driving at a high speed on Gordon Road near James Hill Road.

Police followed the car onto Lewvan Drive and onto the Trans-Canada Highway bypass.

Officers noticed a second vehicle travelling ahead of the car and when they caught up to one of the vehicles, a Chevy Cavalier, the other car sped away.

When police activated their emergency lights, the Cavalier also accelerated up to speeds estimated between 160 and 170 kilometres an hour.

At one point, the Cavalier was driving southbound in a northbound lane of the Ring Road and it almost hit a police vehicle.

Minutes later, the car veered into the centre ditch at high speed and continued driving southbound on the Ring Road.

Officers got a look at the driver and were able to confirm their identity through photos.

The suspect vehicle was later located near the 4800 block of Liberty Street and the 17-year-old female driver was arrested.

The girl, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in court Wednesday on charges that include dangerous driving and evading police.
