Hundreds of people have signed a petition opposing the Regina public school board's planned changes to bus services.

Under the changes, bus service would no longer be provided to students who live within a one-kilometre radius of their school.

But parents say the actual walking distance to the school can sometimes be twice that.

Trustees have not yet voted on the changes, which, if approved, would come into effect this fall. The school board must approve its budget before the end of June.
