Michael Fougere secured a second term as mayor of Regina by a wide margin in Wednesday's civic election.

Fougere garnered just over 70 per cent of the vote, according to unofficial results released by the City of Regina. Tony Fiacco was second with 12 per cent, followed by Jim Elliott with nine per cent. Wayne Ast and Evangeline Godron received seven per cent and two per cent of votes respectively.

Fougere ran on a platform that included priorities such as investments in infrastructure and encouraging economic development and job creation. He said he looks forward to getting to know the four newcomers who were elected to council.

“I know them from a distance and I know what their platforms have said, I followed them very closely during the election campaign,” Fougere said.

“The next step is to build a team; to build a group of people that get together – don’t’ always agree – but we can talk about being good friends and working together because we have four years to build our city.”

Fougere was first elected mayor in 2012 after serving five terms as the city councillor for Ward 4.
