A fun take on the Reuben sandwich!

Makes 2

2 fat all-beef hot dogs, such as Nathan’s Famous

2 hot dog buns

½ cup sauerkraut

½ cup grated Swiss or Emmenthal cheese

2-3 tbsp Thousand Island dressing, bottled or homemade (recipe below)

Grill the hot dogs on the barbecue. Lightly toast the buns. Once hot dogs are cooked, place them in the toasted bun. Top each with ¼ cup sauerkraut and ¼ cup grated cheese. Place them on the grill but off any direct heat. Close the lid and let the cheese melt, about 5 minutes. Remove to a plate and spoon over some of the Thousand Island Dressing. Eat immediately.

Thousand Island Dressing

½ cup mayonnaise

1-2 tbsp ketchup

1 tbsp green hotdog relish

1 tbsp finely chopped white onion

Mix all ingredients together. Taste and add more ketchup or relish, if desired. Season with a pinch of salt. Refrigerate until ready to use.
