Police have laid charges after a dramatic standoff in North Central Regina early Thursday morning.

The call came in around 11:38 p.m. on Wednesday night that there were people in a home on the 1400 block of Princess Street with guns and other weapons. The SWAT and explosives disposal unit was also called out.

Police tried all night to communicate with the occupants of the house. The SWAT team used the tactical armoured vehicle to get close to the house and a bomb disposal robot to take a landline to the people inside.

When the occupants refused to come out, SWAT deployed gas into the house’s basement.

Around 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, a 34-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman came out of the house and were taken into custody.

After obtaining a search warrant, police entered the house and found a sawed off shotgun, ammunition, debit machines and several debit and credit card in names of those other than the residents.

Jamie Dale Miller, 34, is facing a total of eight charges, including a number of firearms charges.

Allyson Kristina Bachiu, 26, is facing six charges, including several firearms charges.

The pair made their first court appearance on Friday morning.
