A 44-year-old Regina man is facing impaired driving charges after a vehicle struck and toppled a power pole in the city Thursday night.

Police say a pickup truck hit a power pole near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and St. John Street shortly before 10 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, the power pole was sheared off and hanging over the road, blocking traffic in both directions on Ross Avenue.

A man who matched witness descriptions of the driver was taken into custody and charged with impaired driving and failing or refusing to provide a breath sample.

Traffic was closed near the scene for several hours while SaskPower crews repaired the damage.
