The Saskatchewan Party has announced its new leader will be elected on January 27, 2018.

The party will hold a leadership convention in Saskatoon. The leader will be elected using a one-member, one-vote voting system.

“The Saskatchewan Party looks forward to a robust campaign, with many leadership candidates entering the race,” said Saskatchewan Party president James Thorsteinson in a news release on Saturday. “I know that our next leader and Premier will continue the work of the past decade by continuing to keep Saskatchewan growing.”

Leadership election campaign rules were also announced on Saturday. The nomination filing deadline for candidates is November 24, 2017, and all candidates need to pay a $25,000 filing fee. Campaigns will have an expense limit of $250,000 and candidates will need to disclose the names of donors making donations of $250 or more.

Patrick Bundrock has been appointed electoral officer by the provincial council.

Anyone interested in voting in the election will need to renew or purchase party membership before December 8, 2017.
