Search and Rescue Regina (SARR) has been “deactivated” by its provincial governing body.
SARR is a volunteer organization, in which local residents are trained on how to conduct a proper search and then called upon to assist when people go missing.
The Regina chapter has been involved in dozens of ground searches over the years, including missing persons searches in the city's North Central neighbourhood, and rural areas surrounding Regina.
The president of the Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers says the decision to deactivate the Regina chapter was made two weeks ago, after Regina police received a complaint and launched an investigation.
In a written statement, Justin Capp says "there is currently an investigation surrounding a complaint of internal irregularities."
As for what will be done if a missing persons search is needed while the group remains deactivated, Capp says "there are several other SAR chapters in the province that would be available."
