Severe thunderstorms with hail, heavy rain and strong winds hit parts of southern Saskatchewan on Thursday night, toppling trees and knocking out power.

Environment Canada says winds gusted up to 130 kilometres an hour in some areas of the province.

SaskPower responded to multiple outages, and the Pasqua Hospital in Regina had to use its emergency generator until service was restored. Some areas were still without electricity Friday morning.

Heavy downpours filled underpasses with water and flooded streets in the city.

The strong winds uprooted trees and battered the North American Indigenous Games cultural village in front of the First Nations University of Canada in Regina.
