Regina police say a Taser failed to stop a fleeing suspect during an arrest early Monday morning.

Just before 2 a.m., police attempted to pull over a vehicle that ran a stop sign at the intersection of Pasqua Street and Seventh Avenue.

The vehicle accelerated through a red light on Seventh Avenue at Lewvan Drive and was found abandoned a short time later.

Members of the canine unit led police to a back alley, where a patrol officer attempted to apprehend a 30-year-old male suspect.

Despite being told to stop, the man ran towards the officer, who deployed a Taser. Police say the stun gun had little or no effect on the suspect and he continued to flee.

A short time later, canine officers arrested the man, who did not require medical attention. A 28-year-old man was also arrested nearby.

Allen Daniel Guenther, 30, of Regina faces several charges, including flight from police, dangerous driving, mischief and failure to comply. Calvin Wayne Nagy, 28, is also charged with failure to comply.
