The Canadian Wheat Board says it has successfully completed the acquisition of the Great Sandhills grain terminal in Saskatchewan.

The deal was approved by shareholders in the business, which has a high-throughput facility near Leader.

The purchase also includes a majority stake in the Great Sandhills Railway between Swift Current and Burstall.

CWB president Ian White says in a release that the acquisition strengthens the board's presence in western Saskatchewan and officially puts it in the short-line railway business.
