Moose Jaw police have laid charges in a violent home invasion early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a home in the 400 block of Fairford Street West shortly before 2 a.m.

When officers arrived, they learned there had been an assault and that the suspect had fled.

A short time later, police were called to the area again after it was reported that the same suspect had broken into a neighbouring home and assaulted the owner with a shovel.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to the head and was later released. Police say the homeowner was not involved in the first incident.

The suspect fled the scene and was apprehended by police a few blocks away.

The accused, whose name hasn’t been released, faces several charges, including assault with a weapon, assault and uttering death threats.

The accused was scheduled to appear in Moose Jaw provincial court Wednesday morning.
