Drivers in Regina likely won’t see a jump in prices at the gas pump ahead of the August long weekend, says the co-founder of consumer website GasBuddy.com.

Jason Toews told CTV News that gas prices have actually fallen about 10 cents a litre on average in the city since early June to 121.7 cents a litre.

“It is a bit of a misconception that gas prices jump up for the long weekend,” Toews said Monday.

“In fact, 75 per cent of the time, it does not go up on the long weekend.”

Toews said gas prices were higher in the spring due to inflation from rising crude oil prices.

“There really is nothing to support 130 or 140 (cents a litre) gas prices,” Toews said.

“In the past month or so, even two months, the gas stations have been making pretty good profits off gasoline.”

He added that he expects gas prices to stabilize in the coming weeks before rising again near the end of August.
