Nolen Tanner’s sister took the stand Monday for the Crown at the trial for the Regina man charged with his murder.

Shesheena Tanner was at the same party on Halloween 2013 where her brother died. She wiped away tears throughout her testimony, explaining in her words the series of events that led to her brother’s death.

Tanner testified the accused, Elijah Noname, arrived at the party with a friend. She told the jury at one point, he showed off a gun under his shirt tucked into his jeans.

Tanner testified that later a fight broke out between several guests outside, including Noname, and eventually she heard gunshots.

At that point, she was escorted upstairs to keep her away from the chaos, she said. Once inside, Tanner said she watched Noname outside with a gun from an upstairs window. When her brother left her view from the window Tanner says she went outside and found his girlfriend. Together, they found Nolen Tanner lying on the grass outside.

During cross examination, the defence challenged some of Tanner’s testimony, calling into question whether she saw Noname with a gun inside the house during the party, and her descriptions of his clothing.

The trial is scheduled to last until the end of next week.
