Old-Fashioned Ginger Molasses Cookies

Makes 1 dozen large cookies

¾ cup soft butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

¼ cup molasses

2 cups flour

1 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp ground cloves

½ tsp ground ginger

1 tsp baking soda

extra granulated sugar to roll the balls in

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the butter and sugar. Add the egg and molasses. Then add the flour and remaining dry ingredients. Mix well.

Divide dough into 12 equal portions. Roll into balls, then into granulated sugar. Place on the cookie sheet and bake for about 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool 10 minutes. Then remove from pan to cool completely.
